FOOTBALL -- NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

You have to feel for Ghana.  They had it won.  Almost but not quite.  Ultimately undone in about ten seconds by a hand ball, a crossbar, and a couple of botched penalties.

It is truly a beautiful game.  (And I suspect that Luis Suarez is only too happy to miss the semi-final.  How often do you save the day by taking a red card?)

And the Dutch sending Brazil packing after ninety minutes?  Yowza! Lovely, lovely stuff.

Tomorrow's game between Germany and Argentina should be a fucking rip-snorter.

The Dutch double-header goal was nice. More of those, please.

If soccer players were real men, they wouldn't have penalty kicks to end the game, they'd play till someone scored like the NHL playoffs. However, I'm sure it wouldn't make it that long as all the players would be taken off on stretchers before the game was over!

4 - nil!? Man, I was expecting a completely different match. Argentina were utterly outclassed today.

Holland/Germany final?

Wasn't it kind of a joke Maradona being named Argentina head coach? A move more for who he is rather than what he may accomplish? Not unlike Gretzky and the Coyotes? I don't think he keeps this job.

Not many guys get to win a World Cup as both a player and a coach. He had a shot. It backfired.

Yeah, I think he's gone.
